2025 IPAC GTA Executive Team

Sarah Zanchettin

Title: President
Bio:
Sarah is currently a Manager with the Infection Prevention & Control Department at the University Health Network in Toronto, Canada. She has a Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto and a Master of Health Administration degree from the Johnson Shoyama School of Public Policy from the University of Regina. She is a member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and holds a Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation. She is recently CIC re-certified in 2023. She is an active member of IPAC GTA and co-chair of IPAC Canada’s Oncology and Transplantation interest group. Her interests include leadership, healthcare delivery & strategy, patient safety, and infection control in the immunocompromised population.

Tavia Caplan

Title: President Elect
Bio:
Tavia is currently an Infection Control Practitioner and IPAC Program Lead at Sinai Health. She achieved her undergraduate degree in Microbiology at the University of Guelph, as well as a master’s degree in Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto, where she studied antifungal drug resistance in human fungal pathogens. Tavia is currently CIC certified. She joined the IPAC GTA Executive Team as Networking Co-Chair in 2022. During her 2 year term, she helped to plan and execute 17 education and networking events. Tavia is passionate about building and fostering relationships, collaboration, and connection within our IPAC community. She is thrilled to take on the role of IPAC GTA President Elect from 2025-2027.

Murtuza Diwan

Title: Past President
Bio:
Murtuza Diwan is an experienced Infection Control Professional at Halton Healthcare, with special interests in tuberculosis management and the development of IPAC electronic surveillance systems. He also serves as a professor at Humber College, teaching the Post-Graduate IPAC Certificate Program, and mentors students from Centennial College's PI_200 Course.
Murtuza earned an Honors Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, specializing in Human Biology with minors in Mathematics and Zoology. He later completed a Postgraduate Diploma and a Master of Science in Infectious Diseases from the University of London, UK.
An active member of IPAC Canada since 2009, Murtuza has held numerous leadership roles, including Past President of the IPAC-GTA Chapter. He currently co-chairs the IPAC Canada Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group, chairs the Mental Health Interest Group, and contributes as a member of the IPAC-GTA Education Committee.

Kevin Le

Title: Secretary
Bio:
Kevin is currently an Infection Prevention and Control Professional post graduate student completing his final semester with Humber Polytechnic in preparation for the CIC examination. He graduated from Ryerson University’s Collaborative Nursing BScN program with honors and has been an active member of IPAC Canada since 2024 and is currently serving as secretary for IPAC GTA. He has a lifelong passion for photography, creativity, travelling, learning, teaching and connecting various lens to his IPAC practice using a One Health approach. His favorite quote that inspires him to push through difficult challenges, “We don’t get to choose how we start in this life. Real greatness is what you do with the hand you’re dealt” - Victor Sullivan

Kornelija Delibasic

Title: Treasurer
Bio:
Kornelija is a Certified Infection Control and Prevention Practitioner certified by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC), and Public Health Inspector registered with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
Kornelija has over 18 years of comprehensive hospital/clinical and public health experience in the fields of health promotion and prevention programs/ strategies, investigations, infection prevention and control in long-term care/ childcare and personal services settings, communicable diseases, epidemiology, safe food handling techniques, analytical and research methodologies, and delivery of public health inspection programs, in the public and private sectors.
She earned a Master of Science Degree in Food Safety and Quality Assurance from the University of Guelph, a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Public Health and Safety from Toronto Metropolitan (Ryerson) University, and a Graduate Diploma in Public Health from the Medical College of Applied Sciences, from Belgrade, Serbia.
Kornelija is currently Instructor at the Bay River College, Calgary, Alberta, where she developed, and teaching Infection Prevention and Control Course (IPAC), endorsed by IPAC Canada. In addition, as a Manager of IPAC, Kornelija is currently employed with Toronto Housing and Homeless Supports at the Salvation Army, Toronto, Ontario. In recent previous roles, Kornelija worked over 8 years as Infection Control Practitioner in 3 major hospitals in Toronto and Area.
Kornelija is co-author of number of the articles/research published in medical journals, as well as presented at number of IPAC Canada National Conferences. She is a long-time advocate and volunteer in the IPAC community and associations. Kornelija volunteers with IPAC Canada as a Chapter Council representative from IPAC Greater Toronto Area (GTA). She also volunteers with IPAC Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in various roles, including the Education Committee and has been elected Treasurer for a 2-year term commencing 2023.

Ruby Chopra

Title: Networking Co-Chair
Bio:
Ruby is currently an Infection Control Practitioner at Sinai Health. She holds an undergraduate degree in Medical Radiation Sciences and achieved her CIC designation in 2023. Ruby is passionate about community involvement and event planning. As the co-chair of neWCHapter, she successfully organized events that raised funds in support of Women’s College Hospital. In her personal life, Ruby enjoys practicing yoga, which helps her maintain a balanced and focused approach to her diverse responsibilities.

Shamleed Bashiruddin

Title: Networking Co-Chair
Bio:
Shamleed is currently an Infection Control Practitioner at Trillium Health Partners. She has an Honors Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, specializing in Neuroscience and Biology. Shamleed is a graduate of the Medical Laboratory Science program at The Michener Institute, with over 12 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist and is registered with CMLTO. She started working in infection prevention and control in 2022, with her areas of interest being Dialysis and Pediatrics. She has been an active member of IPAC GTA since 2023.
In her personal life, Shamleed loves event planning and travelling as it allows her to immerse, experience, and learn different cultures.

Chantal Williams

Title: Education Chair
Bio:
Chantal is currently an Infection Control Practitioner at Trillium Health Partners, Mississauga Hospital. She has an Honours Bachelor of Science from University of Ottawa and a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Western University. She started her work in infection prevention and control in 2020, and achieved her CIC designation in 2023. She is an active member of IPAC GTA’s networking committee, and participates in IPAC Canada’s Surveillance/Applied Epidemiology interest group. She is passionate about infection prevention and control, epidemiology and health equity.

Stefanie Siauw

Title: Webmaster
Bio:
Stefanie is currently an Infection Prevention and Control Specialist with York Region Public Health. She previously worked as an infection control practitioner at Mackenzie Health. She has been the IPAC GTA webmaster since 2019. She achieved the CIC designation in 2019, and re-certified in 2024. She graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Science with High Distinction. Outside of work, Stefanie is a proud dog mom to a bichonpoodle named Mango, and likes reading and photography.

Jessica Kociper

Title: Social Media Chair
Bio:
Jessica works in Infection Prevention and Control as an Infection Control Practitioner with University Health Network. She completed a Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Toronto Metropolitan University, an Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Science from The Michener Institute, holds registration with CMLTO, and is working towards completing a Master’s degree in Public Health with Brock University. Her area of focus in IPAC is working to improve and promote best practices in the rehab setting through interprofessional collaboration and quality improvement.

Meenakshi (Meenu) Malhotra

Title: JEDI Co-Chair
Bio:
Meenakshi (Meenu) Malhotra is a Certified ICP, certified by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC)—both CIC and LTC-CIP. She is a medical professional with over 20 years of progressive health care experience in diagnostic, therapeutic, teaching, training, infection prevention & control, epidemiology, research and public health services. In addition, is an expert with complete knowledge of health care delivery chain in both developing and developed countries with work experience in reputed hospitals, family physician/specialist clinics, Seniors/retirement home, rehabilitation center, mental health and home health care. She earned MD in Medical Microbiology from Delhi University, India and IPAC certificate course from Queens University. She has been an active member of IPAC Canada since 2017 and currently holds the role of Chair of Environmental Hygiene Interest group, Co-chair JEDI, and education subcommittee of HDFC group. Currently she is working as an ICP at Center for Addictions & Mental Health.

Rosanna Ramkissoon

Title: JEDI Co-Chair
Bio:
Rosanna Ramkissoon is an aspiring infection control practitioner with a keen interest in hospital associated infections. She has graduated from University of Toronto with an Honors Bachelor of Science, double major and a minor in Health and Disease, Immunology and Biology. Rosanna also holds a Diploma from Centennial College in Industrial Microbiology–Biotechnology, Co-op. She has an insatiable appetite for learning new things and enjoys travelling as well as being outdoors. Her philosophy is "The difference between a stepping stone and a stumbling block is the character walking the path."

Christopher De Vries

Title: Membership Chair
Bio:
Christopher De Vries is currently an Infection Control Professional at Trillium Health Partners. He graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Science, specializing in Global Health with a major in Neuroscience. Since entering the world of IPAC, Chris has gained experience creating, managing, and implementing IPAC programs across a diverse array of healthcare settings, including long-term care, community care, and acute care. Chris became CIC certified in 2024 and continues to look for opportunities to grow and educate himself as an ICP, with particular interests in emerging infectious diseases and frontline staff education.
